Jonathan Williams, Expert Ghostwriter

Choosing a ghostwriter to help you write your book—maybe your only book—is a big decision.

Because of this, it’s essential that we are a fit.

To that end, here’s a little about me and what I can do for you.

What I can, and can’t, do for you: As a ghostwriter, I use my storytelling ability and my writing and editing chops to help my clients tell their stories. The bottom line is, I love to write, I’m good at it, and I have the happy clients to prove it.

At the same time, I can’t take sloppy ideas and make them better. I also can’t dive into your brain and pull out your stories. It’s up to you to tell me what needs to go in your book.

I also can’t guarantee that your book will be a bestseller. No one can. And if someone does, run far away. I can promise that I will make your book the best I can.

My philosophy on writing: To me, good writing and good ghostwriting are all about telling stories. Stories have power and can convey information and emotion like nothing else. I will encourage you to use stories wherever possible to illustrate your ideas.

Education and past work experience: I have an M.A in English from the University of Utah and a B.A in political science from Brigham Young University.

For many years, I worked as a technical writer in the Washington, D.C. area. I wrote user manuals, operational manuals, release notes, help guides, online help, proposals, and so on. I also wrote newspaper articles, marketing collateral, advertising copy, and print ads. Through all these assignments, I learned a lot: about writing, and about people.

Personal stuff: I was born in Washington, D.C., and grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland. When I was 20, I went on a volunteer mission for the LDS Church to Japan, where I served mostly on Okinawa. I learned to speak Japanese and grew a lot from the experience.

I have lived in Utah (Provo, Logan, Ogden, and Salt Lake City) both during and after college.

I now live in Little River, South Carolina, near Myrtle Beach and close to the North Carolina border. But honestly, location matters little with what I do because I have worked with clients all over the US: San Diego, Houston, Los Angeles, Ft. Lauderdale, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Washington, DC, even Dubai.

I am married with a boy and a girl. My son has autism, so that subject is close to my mind and heart, and my daughter is the most amazing artist I’ve seen for someone her age.

If you have struggled, I have too. I battled depression for years and still struggle with anxiety.  I have also known loss. My parents have both passed on. My father passed on the day I was to graduate BYU, and my mother passed on ten or so years later when I was in my 30s. In my own family, my wife and I lost twin boys at 21 weeks, so we know a little of what others have suffered.

Fun stuff: I love electronic gadgets, and I’m an audiophile and love listening to good music (often classical, jazz, and classic rock). I love riding my bike and being outdoors. I also love reading good books and watching good movies. I enjoy travel and can′t wait to explore all that South Carolina and North Carolina have to offer, especially their cities (Charlotte, Asheville, Wilmington, Raleigh-Durham, Columbia, and of course Charleston).

My secret sauce: If you want a ghostwriter who listens and who won’t get in the way of your story, I am your guy.
