Who or What is a Ghostwriter?

Okay, let’s talk about the who first. I’m Jonathan Williams, and I ghostwrite memoirs, business books, and self-help books. Before I started ghostwriting, I was a technical writer for many years in the Washington, D.C. area. I wrote exciting things like user manuals, operational manuals, release notes, help guides, online help, and proposals. I’ve also written newspaper articles, marketing pieces, advertising copy, and so on. I have a Master’s degree in English from the University of Utah and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Brigham Young University. Somewhere along the way, I discovered ghostwriting, and I found that I love to help others tell their story. I love to write, and I have the happy clients to prove it.

What is a Ghostwriter?

Now for the what. So what is a ghostwriter? A ghostwriter is someone you hire to help you write your book, whether that book is a memoir, a business book, or a self-help book (or even some other kind of book). Ghostwriters get paid to help people write their books, but their name almost never appears on the book’s cover.
